Ok ok,
So i was in the cinemas the other day with Meshuggah and Shaky to catch a movie. I has set my heart on Inside man but due to strong and overwhelming mind control techniques employed by Meshuggah we eventually settled for V for Vendetta.
For those of you concerned about reading the novel before the movie, the movie is very loosely based on the book and both are not without their own set of controversies. I personally do not think you need to have read the book before the movie, though the book does contain more of the expanded universe.
Long story short, V is not for Vendetta. It’s a prison cell in a dystopian future civilization where experiments are conducted on live humans. V is also the name of the secondary protagonist who comes across as a revolutionary who employs violence to see his ideals though. No spoilers though. V for Vendetta is a political thriller first and foremost with a very dark and multifaceted character at its center. "On one hand, V is altruistic, believing he can bring about great social change, but on the other hand he has a murderous vendetta towards anyone who’s done him wrong."
While the book attempts to feature V as an anarchist, the movie subdues him into a freedom fighter. Much of the violence from the novel is also omitted from the screenplay. Evey has also gotten a job change for the movie and she is apparently much older here. The relationship between the 2 chief characters have also been more clearly defined in the screenplay. Both the book and the movie strive to raise many questions and answer very few and leave most to the judgement of the viewer. Each of us will come out walking a different path eventually. It is not a movie for thrill seekers though but would be perfect for the armchair adventurer.
The Wachowski brothers have a strong inclination towards the holy trinity of the christian faith and as with the Matrix, this movie is pretty faithful to their ideals. Three central characters form the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
The whole concept makes me ask the question, "Is terrorism a perception?". If you have watched the movie or read the book, what is your question?
Cheers
ps: Beneath this man, muscles and bones, is an idea. And ideas are Bullet-proof.
Technorati tags: Archtomato, V for Vendetta
Whether V is gay or str8 is a little vague in the movie.
Although the prison was full of gays and lesbians it could have also included anarchist and freedom fights. The movie never did address this particular point.
Check out forums at IMDb, they having a debate abt your question.
In the book hes straight though
Cheers
I like the “mind-rape” analogy.
