Visualised by archtomato On Sunday, December 11, 2005 at 13:57 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Ok ok, Today i headed to the Murugan Hill Temple in western Singapore, to witness the sarge getting married. lst Sergeant Puveneswaran and Ms. Reena tied the knot today at about 2024 GMT 8+. Was a simple ceremony with a simple meal visited by simple people. Sispec A-Block was out in full force. Some notable characters found at the event

OC A Block – MWO K. Singh

CSM A Block – Encik Bala

Platoon 1

2WO Ian

Manimaran

Buddha

Willipo

Sarge Ganeson

Platoon 3

2WO Lim

Black Panther with the mrs.

Black Chains

Perazghan

Thomas Tan

Mr. Cool

Platoon 4

Encik Bob

1 SIR

OC A COY – some captain

LiM Su Guan

5 SIR

Pandian

And then there was Tomato. The star of it all (after the bride and groom of course).

I wish to thank all who have made this event a success and Black Chains for driving the couples around. I wanted to be a cheapskate and not buy any gifts, but ended up chipping in to buy a gift with teh others, notably black chains. Had a good chat with my former PC WO lim and OC Singh. I also got to throw the rice on the couples as seen on TV. Cool.

Black Panther is going to be a father in 5 months time.

Some other facts would be that SISPEC has relocated to Pasir Laba Camp. The guys are more happier there. Now they can anyhow book out and anyhow come in. And there’s no more heavy stench of Pulau Tekong. And then there’s the fact that they are having lull for another 2 Weeks.

2IC was in JB for another wedding and was missed. Navy seal Sunil couldn’t make it to the event as his mum is sick. Lets pray for his mum.

Overall, was good to see all again.

Cheers

ps: A-Block still rules and all other give themselves a wedgie.

Creative Zen Vision

It’s been a while since Creative busted out a new personal video player (it’s been almost a year since the Zen Portable Media Center debuted), but DAPreview got the scoop on an unannounced new 30GB the Creative Zen Vision.

This one’s both smaller and lighter than the Zen PMC, and has a CompactFlash memory card slot, a 640 x 480 pixel, 3.7-inch LCD screen, built-in FM tuner, and support for playback of MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files and MPEG4, WMV, DivX, and XviD video files.

Could go on sale as early as the end of this month in the US. Been around in Singapore for about a few months now.

Cheers

ps: I wanna get a vision to watch movies on the go.

Google 2.0

I am a avid fan of Google in general and Gmail, an extremist in a sense. I was looking for new things while idling the office and want to share a few things.

We all know Gmail is a free Email service by Google that has just about the biggest mail payload. And the best thing is, It very efficient. Some things many would not know would be,

  • Gmail and be used in conjunction with any email client like Outlook and Eudora Lite. All you got to do is play with the pop settings.
  • Gmail can be used as a hard disk to store crap. Think of it like a virtual hard disk. For Linux users, you can get the same thing by using gmailfs.
  • Some Gmail tools for further customisation.
  • Those of you who want to give away your invites to others, 30gigs.com invites is a central server where yu can deposit your invites. This way, the invites can actually be put to good use.
  • For those without RSS readers, now you bloggers can actually covert your feeds to PDF format. PDF format is embedded and thus s not browser dependant.
  • For the Technically inclined or developers, theres the Google API.
  • And then there Goggletalk

Cheers

ps: Lifes a google. Theres always more in store.

Rambling Thoughts of a Mad Man 3
Visualised by archtomato On Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 7:11 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Ok ok,

Lately I feel as though I am in some sort of limbo I don’t know whether I am moving forward or moving backward. In the end it’s quite a surreal experience. Most of the time i feel detatched from who I really am and more ungrounded and with there being less substance to myself than before.

Is it my job? doubtful.

Is it my love life? doubtful.

Is it just me trying to rationalize my existence and the reason I am where I am at this point in my life?

Wow, that almost sounded like I might actually have something there. Phew … I am not even going to think about the things are just said. Are these merely the ramblings of a man on the edge of going insane? Or are these merely the musings of someone so grounded in reality that they see it for what it really is? Yeah, even I don’t believe it’s the last one. Is it just possible that we all are just trying to get through this life without trying to make too much sense of it? Cause really if we understood why we were here and what it all meant do you think we could handle it?

Now i’m not saying that maybe there is some GRAND SCHEME of thigns and that maybe we are all on some cosmic quest of greatness. But ponder this for an instant and only an instant maybe just even a second, but ponder this nonetheless what if the meaning of life and the reason we are here is simply, “because”.

If that was the reason and it all came down to “because” and that was it no grandeous answer no long philosophical mumbo jumbo on how everything is it’s own little piece of a huge giant puzzle, and that we are all here “just because”, would life be worth living anymore?

And maybe just maybe we could turn it around and finally change it into “because we can”. In the end i think that is the meaning to life and the universe, “because we can”, cause really if you think about it we have the choice on whether or not to live and in the end i choose to live “Because i can”. Question is, can you?

Cheers.

ps: Lifes a circle, just because there is no end in sight, it doesn’t mean you can have it easy.

Ubuntu – Breezy Badger
Visualised by archtomato On Sunday, December 4, 2005 at 11:13 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Hi all,

I was assigned to test the Ubuntu – Linux Distribution to replace our SUSE Linux. So i haven been tinkering with my workstation. I have had to re-partition my 240gb hard-disk. Believe me, it sure took its time to get done. Then i had to clone over my exisiting Win Xp OS. That took me about 2 hours. I had to skip that "quick nap" session that take once i reach work.

Tragic – The word that came to mind when i realise the irony round the whole darn thing. Sacrificing sleep to work, when i should be working at the first place.

Sponsored by Canonical , Ubuntu is the latest and greatest operating system built on the Linux kernel , Gnome 2.12 , the GNU utilities, and the Debian packaging system. Ubuntu 5.10 is the first Linux-based system I have encountered that is tolerable enough for me to use for everyday work. Basically just a consumer friendly debian re-packaging. Interesting!

Desktop

Nautilus

Firefox 1.5

Image Editing

OpenOffice

Installations

Some problems encounted so far:

– OS installed without Audio, had to do multiple re-installations to fix that.

– Cant install Audigy2 driver for SB live.

– Can’t get Evolution to connect to exchange server.

– Nautilus being ridiculuosly slow, though it could have been due to the ram

– I miss Suse Linux

Good things so far

– Installation was a breeze, so much i can say for red hat.

– Gnome looks ravishing.

– No network issues from me.

– Gimp handes better, much better

Overall, is a great achievement. But Ubuntu is still rife with design flaws, some of them severe.

Cheers

ps: I prefer my Suse. She was always the best penguin.

The Blatancy Hurts
Visualised by archtomato On Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 6:32 Hrs | Minimum B.S.
ok ok,

I was hanging around the office today and happen to see a backlink to my blog from another avid blogger called Atomiser.

He has published a compilation of 10 blogs, which had caught his attention lately. A quote from his site below.

Archtomato – Wow. How about this one. Archtomato gets the award for Most Unlikeable Blogger I’ve ever come across. Not only did he write a thoroughly mean-spirited anti-smoking top ten, but he also gloats about Nguyen Tuong Van, the Vietnamese Australian, going to the hangman tomorrow morning. Arsehole Blogger of the Year! For shame.

He hates the top ten list by Emile and loathes my stereotypes article about the Australian Vietnamese guy who was sent to the gallows in Singapore yesterday for Drug trafficking.

I also get a “Arsehole blogger of the year award”. Hmmm … sounds cool in a rather queer way.

Cheers.

ps: Thanks Mr. Atomiser.

I’m lost in the noise of it all
Visualised by archtomato On Friday, December 2, 2005 at 3:36 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

“Emile works for the Singapore Armed Forces as an Technical Support Engineer. His cyber alias Meshuggah comes from his favourite rock band. He jams music for fun and eats cereals for breakfast. Ever a early adopter, he started blogging a few years back to express his thoughts on the world around him. He now lives in Western Singapore and shaves regularly.”
entermysilence@yahoo.com | His Published Works

“What is the meaning of life?”

I’ve reached the point in my life where I can’t differentiate right from wrong, good or bad, God or the devil. It’s all a blur. Too many things to be done but I just don’t have the strength to sit down and think things through. It just requires too much effort. It was never a problem.

My future, studies and working life, is uncertain and that scares me. But I guess it scares everyone… all the time. So then, is it normal to feel scared? I’m always scared and that pisses me off really bad. I’m dying to be abnormal.

I hate myself sometimes I love myself.

I’m feeling so worthless and confused. It feels that I’ve been doing heaps of stuff but I can’t really account for what I’ve done, so really I’m just wasting time. I shudder to think how much time I’ve wasted. It’s time to be more efficient. I want to start doing things that I can, once again, feel proud of. But something’s changing. I can’t tell what and I just can’t concur on the issue.

What do I really want out of life? Fun! But it’s really hard to find the right balance of fun, work and studies, after which, you’re just left with pointless, fragmented mental footages of past occurrences. Again, there is nothing to account for what I’ve done.

The endless cycle at work also seem to prove unrewarding. Things are being done, but it isn’t for me. And at the end of the day, I’m left with nothing.

I miss a lot of my old friends that seem to have phased out from my life. All busy with life and all. It’s kind of heartbreaking actually. New friends will never replace old buddies. It will never be the same. But I have grown to accept it but will never understand why they choose to ignore my attempts. Maybe I’m missing something. To them, I wish them the best in life. I’m left with nothing, all lost in the noise of it all.

The choices you make, dictates the life you lead.

I aspire to be like Tony Montana in Scarface. He asked himself, “What do I want out of life.” And he made choices. After he and his friend, Manny, came to America from Cuba during the “Criminal Wave” and handling a few odd jobs in Florida, they started a business of selling cocaine. The two friends worked their way to the top and made a name for themselves. It’s simply amazing to consider that he actually arrived at another country with literally nothing! Now, what’s preventing me from making it big like him?

Maybe I’m just tired but something needs to be done about my life… before the damage is done.

Shit, Crap and Junk == Spam
Visualised by archtomato On Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 13:06 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

I opened my email this morning and started deleting SPAM as usual, and behold i found this crap shit sitting in my mail server. Please refer below.

Start of shit:

Subject

Fw: Mobile Phone Alert

PLEASE BE AWARE…

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that,

he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they’re checking your

mobile line, and you have to press # 90 or #09 or any other number. End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your “SIM” card and make calls at your expense.

Forward this message to as many friends as you can, to stop it.

All mobile users pay attention if you receive  a phone call and your mobile phone displays  (XALAN) on the screen don’t answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the  call, your phone will be infected by a virus. This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You  will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia. There are over 3 Million mobile phones being infected by this virus in all around the world now.

You can also check this news in the CNN web site.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS PIECE OF INFORMATION TO ALL

YOUR FRIENDS HAVING A MOBILE.

End of shit.

Firstly, this is a hoax. It never existed. There are handphone viruses, but they dunt spread this way. Which dolt would want to write a virus and then give u a chance to hang up on him? I know i wouldnt. Think about it.

Lets talk about spam now. A search in google will give:

" To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities. Noun: electronic “junk mail”. "

SPAM is crap, shit and junk combined. Same thing that u get, when u try to fix your sink. These so called warning messages are just a clever way of sending spams. They ride on the disgiuse of good advice or warning. Some of the very common ones would be:

– Microsoft and AOL paying cash to those who forward the email

– Young mother with dying baby asking you to forward mail so she can   get money

This not only wastes two finger strokes of our time to select and delete, they also choke up valuable bandwidth. Imagine how many other valuble info has to wait in queue while this shit goes thru the information super highway. People with better technical knowledge will probably understand how data travels thru the net and how much redundancy spam creates.

All i want to put across is,

PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO SEARCH THE NET BEFORE FORWARDING THINGS TO OTHERS.

Cheers

ps: The person who forwarded this, has admitted he calls his brain glutius maximus.

Laughing at Gilded Butterflies

Archtomato works in the IT security industry and has managed to convince his bosses for the past 10 years that his best work is yet to come.

Archtomato is a coffee nut, a photographer without focus, a traveler who can't read maps, a diver who floats all too easily and a champion of world peace.

He is an avid practitioner of the dark side of the force; admires Chuck Norris, Paris Hilton and collects vintage Batman comics. Just like the Horizon, Time Dilation, Flying pigs, Tax Reliefs and possibly, the "Opposition", he believes he is more of a concept than a corporeal being.

Archtomato believes that the true nature of man is decided in the battle between the conscious mind and the desires of the subconscious and that the evil of man's subconscious is often too strong to resist. The only way to win is to deny it battle.

He now lives in a world of pollution, profanity, adolescence, smelly beavers, zits, herpes, broccoli, racism, ozone depletion, sexism, conscription, yellow bananas, stupid people, nightmares, dog whisperers,Gamma Ray Bursts, Nuke Baddies and sings badly but regularly in the bathroom.

Tomatoes were sacrificed in the making of this website, contents and for the continual existence of its owner.
