Tomato on Loving You Job
Visualised by archtomato On Monday, December 19, 2005 at 3:51 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Ok ok,

You know, it’s rare in today’s society that people actually enjoy their job. Most people dread Monday mornings; I look forward to them. My old boss used to say 1/2 the people in the world are ready to leave their job but don’t know what they really want to do. The other 1/2 aren’t read to leave but know exactly what they want to do. Like I said, it’s rare that people are in the job they enjoy and have no desire to leave.

It’s 11:55 AM on a Monday Morning, and I’m actually looking foward to the coming week. YA RIGHT! I think you really know that you love your job when you realize that you haven’t visited Monster.com.sg, Jobsdb.com.sg in over 14 days.

I try to actually do my work when i am not sleeping, talking crap, surfing, or taking a coffee break. After all i do need to justify my pay.

Cheers.

ps: I love my job when i am not working.

Death
Visualised by archtomato On Sunday, December 18, 2005 at 9:13 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Many that live deserve death, and some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death and judgement, for not even the very wise can see all ends.

I am dying. Every day, with every breath I draw, I am closer to the end of my life. For we are born with a finite number of breaths, and each one I take edges the sunlight that is my life toward the inevitable dusk.

Life is not about the breaths you take. But the moments that take your breathe away.

Duty might be heavier than a mountain, but death certainly is lighter than a feather.

This …. i must believe.

Cheers

ps: Death is Over-Rated.

Fieldtrip 17.12.05
Visualised by archtomato On Sunday, December 18, 2005 at 5:50 Hrs | Minimum B.S.
Ok ok,

Met up with the old Sispec A-Block Black gang last night.

All those in attendance:

– Ssg Black Panther
– 1sg Navy Seal
– 1sg Skinny Man
– 2sg Black Chains
and then there was Tomato …

Met up with Black Chains at Town. He was purchasing some crap for his church buddies. I then drove us to Queenstown, to link up with the rest. The car wasn’t mine though. A taxi driver nearly died along the way in AYE.

We met the panther, seal at our usual coffee shop near the Queenstown Mrt station. Skinny man came late after a family picnic. And then there was small talk and drinks. The kway teow goreng rocked but the cockles sucked.

Skinny man had thought i had not gone for his wedding and let lose a string of verbal abuses. A mother covered her sons ears at the next table and have me a cold gaze. I had to talk fast to convince him that i had indeed went. Gave Skinny man a treat for his wedding. He stopped his abuses at that point.

We concluded our episode at around midnight promising to meet again. Panther was in the midst of planning a Christmas eve bash at his place. Watch this space for updates.

Some info gathered:
– Black panther is going to 1Grds for Encik appointment by next month. God save his men.
– Skinny Man will stay in Sispec A-Block as EXPECTED.
– Navy Seal is being posted to BCTC for his PS tour by Feb ’06
– Black Chains complained that his office in PLC is worse than it was at Tekong.
– Willipo inzhagi and Manimaran going for Section commander tour at 4 Sir. God save them form eternal damnation

Planning another field trip for New years Eve.

Cheers
ps: The panther’s child is going to be a boy.

The scourge of Arial
Visualised by archtomato On Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 4:25 Hrs | Minimum B.S.
Hi all,
We often blithely go about our daily computing affairs, without undestanding the machinations of the past that have lead to "why things are the way they are".

We currently accept Arial as the default font for everything, but for decades past, Helveteca was looked upon as the all-purpose font.

"With its friendly, cheerful appearance and clean lines, it was universally embraced for a time by both the corporate and design worlds as a nearly perfect typeface to be used for anything and everything. "When in doubt, use Helvetica" was a common rule."

The following article goes on to describe the business partnerships and agreements that ultimately led to Arial being the default font for everything.

"[Arial] has spread like a virus through the typographic landscape and illustrates the pervasiveness of Microsoft’s influence in the world."

Check out the full article at MS-Studio.com
Cheers
ps: Verdana will catch up soon enough!

Sorry, art thou needed
Visualised by archtomato On Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 2:21 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Ok ok,

Sorry.

The one word i loathe most in the English Language

Mannippu.

Tamilil enukku pidikaatha Ore Varthai.

The word “sorry” is redundant. “Sorry” is an emotion. An emotion if truly felt will make one so ashamed, that one will not be able to speak it. One’s eyes can display the emotion and truly one’s deeds can symobolize the ultimate realization of the word “sorry”. Its more of a display of remorse rather than redemption. Why bother making a statment when you can forge it with your deeds.

Truly “Sorry” is just a word.

Cheers

ps: I’m “Sorry” for everything i’ve done.

Tookie

Stanley “Tookie” Williams

I am glad to see that Arnold had the balls to uphold the death penalty for Stanley “Tookie” Williams. I expected this outcome as did many people (I would hope). To grant Mr. Williams clemency for the crimes he committed in 1979 would be such a travesty of what so many people (yes men and woman) died for protecting our nations beliefs.

I watched in disbelief as interview after interview with people barely old enough to remember the crimes stating that it doesn’t matter what he did back then because of the work he has done since his incarceration. Doesn’t matter? Tell that to the wife and two children of the 26 year old (veteran) who was forced at gun point to lie face down on the floor at the convenience store he worked at so Tookie could pump two rounds from a 12 guage shotgun that killed him. I don’t know about you but I think that it would matter to me if that were my Father/Brother/Son. Tell the relatives of the family that were sleeping in their hotel room at 4:00 AM when AGAIN Tookie busted in and immediately started shooting from the same 12 Guage shotgun that killed the store clerk, killed a family of three. He shot one of them (a 40 year old woman) in the face and blew half her head off. Have you ever seen someone with their head blown half off? Well maybe if you had and knew that Tookie was the cause of that you wouldn’t feel that a couple of children’s books is redemption for crimes of this sort.

I am glad to see that a convicted murderer found the time during his incarceration to find some compassion in his life and want to do some good before his time to go. I wonder if Tookie would be in the same position had he not been caught and punished for these crimes. Would he still be preaching non-violence? Or would there have been more people slaughtered in another crime spree? Thankfully we don’t have to guess and Mr. Williams was caught, convicted and sentenced to die for his crimes. I feel bad for him right now and hope he has made his peace with God because that’s the only one who can forgive him now. The state of California hasn’t and rightfully so.

You cannot just re-write our judicial system because of some media attention and some atonement after the fact. If I were a convicted pedofile and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and during that time preached how wrong it is to be with under age children, would you let me babysit your children when I got out? Why not? I wrote a book for children on how to say no when that happens to them…I’m reformed!!

Cheers.

ps: Thanks for the article Kane . You read my mind.

The Beautiful Game
Visualised by archtomato On Monday, December 12, 2005 at 6:47 Hrs | Minimum B.S.

Ok ok,

So the Man UTD and Everton match was on ESPN live yesterday. Ended in a draw

Read More about the game here.

And then i reached the office today. And God people had alot of things to say about Man Utd.

Friend: Hey Tomato, Did you watch the game last night?
Tomato: Ya man the World Chess competition was hot.
Friend: No no, the Man Utd – Everton match, lah!
Tomato: O that, yes i did. Good fast game, draw game man.
Friend: Damn Man Utd, they deserved a win. Everton is so sucky.
Tomato: O, are they now
Friend: Ya man, ….
( He promptly started to explain Man Utd’s cultures, tradition and skills – As though he lived there).

I cant get his problem. Yes, he’s a devils fan and he loves his club im sure. But the serious soccer fan as he calls himself fails to see a few facts.
If Everton were that sucky, they would be playing in the Malaysian Cup finals. And then they would lose.
A draw is a good thing. It maintains standards, makes the league’s standards rise and keep the race going.

Many a times fans, fail to see the most obvious fact of all. A very transparent factor. Blink and you will miss it.
The most important thing about the beautiful game, is the journey – not the destination. Its the flair of the game and sublime skills of the players. Its the spirit of the fans and propagation of their convictions. Then finally and lastly is the score. I support the game, never the clubs.

But then again, what can a silly childhood soccer boy like me know about the finer points of soccer.

Cheers.
ps: George Best passed on about last week. Lets observe a min of silence for him. From one soccer player to another, "ballspinner – I salute you."

Spirit.

In every language in all the realms, heaven and earth, in every time and every place, the word has a ring of strength and determination.

It is the hero’s strength, the mother’s resilence , and the poor man’s armour.

It cannot be broken, and it cannot be taken away.

This … i must believe.

Cheers

Archtomato

Archtomato . OxyMoron .
Laughing at Gilded Butterflies

Archtomato works in the IT security industry and has managed to convince his bosses for the past 10 years that his best work is yet to come.

Archtomato is a coffee nut, a photographer without focus, a traveler who can't read maps, a diver who floats all too easily and a champion of world peace.

He is an avid practitioner of the dark side of the force; admires Chuck Norris, Paris Hilton and collects vintage Batman comics. Just like the Horizon, Time Dilation, Flying pigs, Tax Reliefs and possibly, the "Opposition", he believes he is more of a concept than a corporeal being.

Archtomato believes that the true nature of man is decided in the battle between the conscious mind and the desires of the subconscious and that the evil of man's subconscious is often too strong to resist. The only way to win is to deny it battle.

He now lives in a world of pollution, profanity, adolescence, smelly beavers, zits, herpes, broccoli, racism, ozone depletion, sexism, conscription, yellow bananas, stupid people, nightmares, dog whisperers,Gamma Ray Bursts, Nuke Baddies and sings badly but regularly in the bathroom.
